Shun Aquino, corruption-ridden programs – KMP
The militant peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) today called on Catholic bishops to heed Pope Francis by rejecting President Aquino and his graft-ridden programs and march with the people on July 27, the last State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The KMP issued the call after Pope Francis decried the scourge of corruption as the “gangrene of a people” on Saturday in Paraguay. The Pope also said that corruption was a recurring problem “among all the peoples of the world.”
KMP secretary general Antonio Flores said “our Catholic bishops should follow Pope Francis’ lead by denouncing corruption and shun Aquino.”
“After five years of an Aquino presidency, the raid and plunder of our national treasury continues. Aquino and his ‘daang matuwid’ is the way of the corrupt, the way of the PDAF and DAP,” Flores said referring to the priority development assistance fund and disbursement acceleration program.
Both the PDAF and DAP were declared illegal and unconstitutional by the Supreme Court but the scheme, according to Flores, remains implemented by the Aquino administration. Flores noted that P3.1-trillion proposed budget for 2016 would be a source of corruption and election kitty for Aquino’s Liberal Party.
The KMP leader added that “even the bogus Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), supported by some bishops, is corruption-ridden and rotten.”
“We remind our bishops that the sham CARP is a cash-cow of big landlords. The CARP served as a vehicle for big landlords, like the Cojuangcos, to download millions of cash under the guise of landlord compensation just like what happened to the more than P470 million payment for the still undistributed Hacienda Luisita that came from the DAP,” Flores stressed.
Flores said that “under Aquino’s haciendero rule, even the corruption and plunder of our national resources worsened. Vast tracts of lands were devoted to mining and local and foreign agri-business plantations.”
“We call on our bishops to link arms with the people, walk with the poor, and denounce Aquino’s corruption on his last SONA,” Flores dared. #
