KMP condemns political killing of ComVal peasant leader

stopKilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) assailed the extrajudicial killing of farmer leader Luis Carbajosa, council leader of Mag-uuma sa Mabini (Humabin), an affiliate of KMP in Compostela Valley.

Based on initial reports, Carbajosa was killed by still unidentified assailants on the evening of April 28 in Mampising, Mabini, Compostela Valley. According to KARAPATAN, Carbajosa was the 41st victim of extra judicial killing under the Aquino administration.

“We can only blame the Aquino regime and the military for Carbajosa’s death. Aquino’s Oplan Bayanihan (OpBay) have victimized hundreds of activists and leaders of mass organizations critical to the administration,” said KMP Secretary General Antonio Flores who hails from Southern Mindanao Region.

“Peasant leaders and farmers asserting and defending their rights to the land have virtual death warrants on their heads and have become instant targets of summary executions,” Flores said.

“While Aquino shamelessly grabs credit on Mary Jane’s reprieve, his gross inaction of the extra-judicial killing of peasant leaders is tantamount to presidential blessing and tolerance of the murders,” Flores added.

Since 2010, almost 130 activists were killed under Aquino’s watch, majority of which are farmers and land reform advocates.”Military deployment and human rights violations are rampant in areas with land cases and agrarian disputes,” Flores said.

KMP and Tanggol Magsasaka called on Congress to probe the widespread extrajudicial killing of farmers and land reform advocates. ###
