The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) has not issued an official statement nor was interviewed regarding the following news items entitled: “Run after partylist nominees using their gov’t positions, Comelec told” by the Daily Tribune; “Run after party-list nominees using govt positions in campaign, Comelec urged” by and Party-list nominated gov’t officials under fire by the Manila Bulletin. The said news items were posted online on January 31, 2016 and appeared to have come from a single source.

“We believe that the issues raised in the news items, the mockery of the party-list system by Aquino and his similarly corrupt officials are legitimate and condemnable,” says KMP chair Rafael Mariano.

“However, it loses credibility because we were used as ‘pawn by syndicates’ in the growing electoral brawl between elite political parties and pseudo-party list groups,” the peasant leader said.

“We are all for exposing and condemning pseudo-party-list groups but we also urge the media to remain responsible in their reporting and to check their sources accordingly in the interest of press freedom and the public’s right to information,” Mariano concluded.  ###
